Studio Brief 3 - Poster

Remaking the Poster design

Initially the poster started off with nine blocks which were organised within a grid. These blocks took influence from the social media designs which had images of the events behind the blocks, as well as the catalogue print which had images of the prints behind them. This initial design however looked to cluttered in comparison to the other designs we had for the rest of the identity. Whether this was due to the the amount of vibrant imagery or the amount of blocks, the design had to be simplified to better reflect the more spacious designs we had on other elements.

The design was stripped back to an individual cube, which was also seen in the flyer design. Using central alignment for all the content within the poster made it consistent with other printed matter as well as creating a greater sense of space around the design. Within the block multiple images were used to fit within the different sections of the blocks. This allowed the design to continue its visual link with the social media side. Using multiple images within the block made the design more visually stimulating and intriguing, in comparison to if only one image was used for the whole of the large block. The Dimensions logotype and cubes were used instead of the singular logotype as this allowed a connection to be made between the large block and the logo cubes. By using the whole logo this also implicitly suggests that there is possibly other cube designs to go alongside the white one. To mimic the flyers three designs for the posters were created, one for each of the cubes. Different imagery was used within the different cubes to show the variety of past and present events.
