Initial Logotype Ideas
We discussed that perhaps the logotype could consist of letters placed onto the faces of the cubes as a way of createting continuity throughout the design. It was also said that the design could possibly use the isometric grid as a reference for the creation of the logotype, which was also used for the development of the cubes. It was suggested that if we weren't creating a three dimensional typeface then the typeface chosen would have to be quite blocky and square to reflect the shape of the cubes.
George's initial designs using the cubes allowed the letters to be placed on the faces, however, in this arrangement it was hard to read, but this could be modified so perhaps the blocks sit side by side. Creating letters 'along' the grid meant that the logotype took on an almost wave like appearance, this could potentially be formed back into the blocks to tie it back with three dimensional aspect.
Wider kerning created the sense of blocks side by side, whist closer kerning allowed for the overlapping of letters or 'space' in the letters.
Using a blocky typeface, it was found, actually detracted from the cubes when place next to each other, so it was decided that a thinner type would be used to reflect the lines within the cubes.
