The response around the concept was positive with people saying that the idea of full, occupied and free space was interesting.
A main comment was about the lack of colour in the design, which was something we had not yet got to properly. It was suggested that the design was not very celebratory because of the lack of colour
It was said that possibly the third cube had been done before and was quite common, whilst the open box, it was suggested felt the best because it represented an open space. It was also suggested that the open box could represent a box of presents / open box of prints, creating a sense that you don't know what you'll find within the exhibition and it was said may be more celebratory. Adding colour/ texture to the cubes, it was said could be and interesting idea.It was also said that possibly the box could be adapted into the shape of the Leeds College of Art logo, however we dismissed this because this was a common theme across other peoples designs.
There were uncertainties about the type produced with some suggesting that none of the designs worked and that more three dimensional outcomes should be produced. It was suggested that the three dimensional type could work however should be developed more. It was also said that perhaps the typefaces used were too square / angular and that something softer could be used, because it was suggested that the blocks and type looked too separate from one another. Someone commented that the typeface doesn't art exhibition and was too formal, however the concept was really strong.
Other comments suggested that the name should be better linked to printing e.g. the vacuum bed of screen printing is lots of dots, which could be used to make the grid. It was also said that the name should clearly fit the rationale and that it was unclear how the design would reference printing, celebration and Leeds. One person also commented that the design looked like an existing festival called dimensions, however when we looked at the logo design we found it to be different enough.
