Refining Colour and Layout
Colour Schemes
From crit feedback it was said that the colour scheme was not very celebratory and it was suggested that the colours could be brightened to improve this. All of the colour schemes used in initial digital work were heightened and used in different ways.
When the green from the original map was heightened it became quite intense for a background colour which didn't reflect any other aspect of the exhibition. The green however did allow the diagram to stand out better on the designs using the photographs as a background.
Taking inspiration from Festival printed material, patriotic red, white and blue was used. Using blue for the background was impactful when brightened, although possibly a little too dark for other elements to stand out on. Using grey from the original exhibition map, for the background made the coloured elements stand out although reduced the celebratory feel.
Taking inspiration from an original gold exhibition poster this was used in combination with the red, white and blue. This would allow all the elements to stand out aswell as creating a sense of wealth, importance and being the best.
Layout
In the designs with a box it was found that placing the title within the box then the diagram name just outside it created an interesting contrast. A left orientated key allowed for more natural reading and balanced the title and diagram name out more. Removing the box from the composition created a more striking design as more of the background was seen. However the loss of the structure of the box meant that the text was harder to position alongside the diagram and made it harder to balance elements within the poster. Left or right orientation created large sections of empty space in the poster.
