Terrarium 101 : Creating your own perfect environment by Fiona Brutscher

- terrariums are mini ecosystems that need little space, resources and time to make 
- 'plants liven up any indoor space, they clean the air and brighten you mood'
- act as way of teaching children about ecosystems and gardening
- different varieties of terrarium 
- aquaterrarium is an enclosed plant world with water and some land 
- the names of different types of terrarium are named after Latin words for ecosystems in nature 
- paludarium - swamp 
- riparium - lake shore
- rivarium - riverside
- terrariums can also reflect habitats such as forest, rainforest, desert 
- terrariums can be made from reused materials or they can be bought 
- containers can be big or small 
- vases, bowls 
- activated charcoal is important in closed terrariums 
- depending on what is grown, rocks, pebbles, sand or soil can be used 
- 'try to create an interesting layout, setting plants in clusters of varying heights and sizes and leaving spaces where you can add decorative elements as a finishing touch'
