OUGD603 - Brief 3 - Internal Collaborative - YCN Competition Brief - Art Fund - Poster and GIF designs

Poster and GIF designs

Poster Designs

 - For the poster design we had discussed having a series of the clock faces in a structured pattern in the poster as this would allow a range of artwork and places to be shown in the poster and therefore showing the breath and variety of places people can visit.
- Using a modular grid allowed the geometric shape of the circles to fit into a structured form / order.
- Using a 3 x 2 grid would allow space for six clock faces from the animation to be used within the design.
- It was considered that within the design the Take Time phrase would need to be used as this was the overall campaign name and it was necessary to have the logo and Student Art Pass as information on the poster. These were also trialed in clock faces as they were in the video as this allowed consistency within the grid, however perhaps this makes the information within them less noticeable because it is set in the same format as the other elements within the design..
- Having four images from the video allowed one of each colour background to be shown within the poster.

- It was considered that Take time_ could exist without a circle as this would make it stand out more within the hierarchy because it was on a white background.
- Perhaps not having the words from the animation creates a more visually clear and impactful design, however the use of the words communicates the benefits of visiting museums, galleries and historic houses in a clear and simple way whilst also making the visual link to the idea of time through the use of clock hands.

- It was considered that this could also be done for the bottom circle with the Student Art Pass circle

- In the previous design with the text not placed within a circle this perhaps made the information look slightly out of place when compared with the structure of the rest of the design.
- It was considered that perhaps this information could be placed within a circle so that it followed the same layout as the other elements however the circle could be outlined in blue. This would allow the text to stand out on the white of the background in the same way but still be in keeping with the structure of the rest of the poster.

GIF designs

It was decided that we would have three GIF designs for social media as this would allow most of the imagery from the animation to be used across the GIFs
- Using questions at the beginning of the GIF aims to capture the viewers attention and makes the GIFs more relatable / personal to them, which will hopefully encourage engagement with the post.
- Changing the colours of the backgrounds at the beginning creates a visually engaging GIF that looks interesting even when only information is used.
- Alternating the colours in fours means that no colour background is too close to another so it doesn't look like a colour is being overused.
- The ending uses a similar format to the animation showing the logo and our call to action which is necessary across all deliverables within the campaign.
- Slowing the speed down on the GIFs allows the imagery and the text to be read and understood.
