Initial Ideas Mock Ups - Passport Idea
- For the passport idea we had considered creating a physical passport that students could take to different museums, galleries and historic houses around the UK where they would collect stamps for each place or from major exhibitions that they had visited.
- It was considered that each place would have its own distinct stamp design and stamp colour.
- Passport pages often have faint imagery on each of the pages showing aspects of the place that the passport is from.
- Stamps within books are collected after going to different countries and are applied to pages with a rubber stamp
- The stamp designs themselves are often geometric shapes with information such as the date and place visited.
- It was considered within our passport that a double spread could be for different cities, which would allow enough space for people to collect the stamps from the different places within the area.
- To reflect the use of imagery within traditional passports it was considered key piece of art or objects from that city could be used on the double spread. Keeping the rest of the page fairly blank would allow enough room for stamps to be applied.
- The stamp designs could use different geometric shapes so that each place within the area has a different shaped stamp. Colours used for the stamps could use pastel colours in a similar way to Art Fund which would create a bright and playful aesthetic.
- The names of the places within the stamps could be followed by an underscore to reflect the journey you would go on within that museum, art gallery or historic house.
- The phrase Get away_ would work well in creating a sense of going on holiday or taking a break from everyday life whether this be in a local museum, gallery or historic house or something further away.
- The phrase would also work well in places where people are travelling e.g. bus stops or train stations as this would encourage them to visit places further afield.
- Passport imagery is often slightly grainy so different effects in Photoshop were tested on the Illustrations to try and recreate this effect.
- This made the imagery look out off focus rather than grainy.
- This created a static effect that made the image look quite dark.
- Adding a halftone effect over the top was the most effective and the dot size could be varied to create a more or less intricate design.
