OUGD603 - Brief 2 - Competition Brief - Starpack Awards (Street Art Planning Kit) - Development - Bringing the branding together

Bringing the branding together

For the final design it was decided that the tine should be kept as minimal as possible with only the branding applied to the pack. Keeping the design simple would allow the tin to become a functioning object rather than a a piece of packaging. Only the brand name would be applied to the tin with this kept quite small as to not detract from the tin design and its function. The tin would be exposed metal to create a contemporary and urban industrial feel to the design.

It was considered that the logotype could go horizontally across the top of the spray paint and paint cans however this looked a little cramped and when made smaller didn't stand out as much. Placing the logotype vertically along the side of the cans gave it more space and created a bolder design.

By doing this it also allowed more breathing space for the circles and a better sense of structure within the layout.
By colouring the word 'paint' or 'spray paint' in the colour of the product it created a visual link between the top of the can, dots and typography drawing the eye through the different elements within the design.

The use of white for both the logotype and the other typography allowed this to contrast with the rest of the design and the metal background.

As there would be no other typography on the tin itself it was considered that a card wrap around could be used over the tin with the information about the contents of the street art planning kit. Using white card would allow the information to contrast against the rest of the design making it stand out, whilst still retaining a minimal and contemporary aesthetic.

It was considered that potentially 'Planning Kit' could be added to the tin design as a simple way of showing what the box is for. Potentially the words Street Art Planning Kit or Toolkit would be more reflective of the pack.

A mock up of the final design was printed out to see if the design was correct.
