Rockies: Miniature Landscapes by Richard Fu

These planters create the impression of a miniature landscape through the combination of their rock face forms and the functionality of them as planters which allow plants to grow 'on' the rockface.
By adapting and adding to the form around the planter this allows the planter to still be deep and big enough to plant things within them. The squared off designs allow multiple designs to be grouped together to create a larger landscape. Each of the designs uses different rock formations which are modeled in a geometric and angular way, this allows consistency cross the designs but also variation, whilst the refined design of the rock formations creates a contemporary and bold design. The use of the concrete material to cast the designs allows the planters to have a contemporary aesthetic and be reflective of the stone that would form these formations creating a material link to the rock faces created within the design.
