OUGD603 - Brief 6 - Research Brief - Indoor Gardening - Development - Considering shapes and textures / patterns for the set of planters

Considering shapes and textures / patterns for the set of planters

Across the set of planters it was considered that their should be a variety of shapes and textures used within the designs to create the impression of different 'gardens'.

The most basic shapes considered were the use of squares, rectangles, quarter circles and semi circles and triangles. The use of these shapes in combination create an element of consistency in form within the set as well as variation, whilst also allowing enough space for multiple plants to be planted within the design. In terms of textures it was considered that a good balance between structured patterns such as paving and bricks and more natural textures such as gravel and riven.

It was found that some of the textures / patterns from the materials list were quite similar so choosing ones that were varied in form would be important to make each design different. Alternatively it was considered that all of the designs could use textures for paving / paths such as brick, stone, cobbles etc. This would allow the designs to work as a set reflecting hard landscaped areas within the garden whilst also reflecting different materials and ways of laying these. The use of square and circular elements within all the designs would create an element of consistency across the set.
