OUGD503 - Studio Brief 1 - Sustainability Logo (3 Days) - Final Outcome and Evaluation Against the Brief

Final Outcome and Evaluation Against the Brief

The brief was to create a logo to reflect the sustainability activities in the university with  the concept for the design reflects the university as a both a creative and sustainable place making it specifically relevant to the university and its aims for sustainability. Feedback suggested that the use of the pencil within the design made the link between creativity and sustainability well making the design more reflective of the university.

The design will be applied across media both in screen and print so the design was tested at a range of scales with it still being recognisable and legible at a small scale making it appropriate for a variety of applications. The colour scheme is effective for both digital and print applications as it uses CMYK colours allowing the design to be applicable across media.

The logo is simple and flexible through its minimal aesthetic which uses two elements to represent the idea. The use of different line thicknesses creates contrast within the design whilst not being too cluttered making the design clear and simple. The design is functional for all sustainability activities because the concept represents sustainability generally through the use of seed which makes it applicable to any environmentally friendly initiative within the university.

The refined colour palette allows the design to work in one colour or in combinations making it flexible to the context or environment it is seen in. The colour scheme uses common colours associated with the environment making it easily identifiable as being about sustainability.
