OUGD505 - Studio Brief 2 - City Patch Project - Combining Brand Elements with Imagery Experimentation

Combining Brand Elements with Imagery Experimentation

It was considered that within the materials being designed imagery and and brand elemetns would have to work in unison within the designs. To better understand how imagery could be combined with brand elements as a way of making the imagery part of the branding various effects were trialed.

It was considered that some of the brand elements could be enlarged over the top of the imagery with a reduced opacity allowing the imagery to show through, which uses the brand elements in a subtle way. Colouring brand elements using the lighter colours from the colour scheme allowed the elements to stand out, however they were most effective when smaller in size as this did not overpower the imagery.

It was considered that imagery could be placed alongside brand elements rather than directly on top of one another which might let them both stand out more, whilst still being combined in some way. Using the brand element as a frame for an image creates a sense of a window into the patch. Making the patch ornament the size of the whole page makes the design look too cluttered especially combined with other elements so it wouldn't be very functional when applying text over the top.

Creating a border around the image with the brand element acts a way of framing the image and allowing it to stand out more.Using block colour over images will allow text to stand out without interfering with the imagery. Placing the title within the logo could be a good way of applying titles to everything consistently. Setting the type over three lines and using the green and grey matches the logotype. Setting the last line in lowercase creates a more personal sense to the word 'member' whilst creating distinction within the title.
