OUGD505 - Studio Brief 2 - City Patch Project - Visual Research

Visual Research - Found Imagery

Visual research was collected for different themes within the concept.

Patch

A physical patch badge can take any form so one of these could perhaps be created for the brand as a a way of reflecting the concept of a patch in a physical sense. For embriodered patches using basic designs look with bold colors are most effective.

A patch is also used to cover an area and is stitched on as a repair. It was considered that shapes from this could be used within the branding to signify a patch shape in a recognisable way. The classic shape of a patch is usually square which is then stitched on with the stitches overlapping from the patch to the surrounding material.

Designated space

Within car parks lines are used in different ways to define space and break up the area to signify smaller spaces. The idea of designated space within car parks could be an interesting visual reference for the branding design as this is already something that exists within the city environment and is familiar. The patterns would be recognisable as signifying an area, however would instead reflect an areas of green space. The use of bold graphical elements are simple but would be clear.

Diagonal lines are used to show an area that should not be used. This idea could be used to create a sense of protection of green space from the surrounding city.

Bright colours stand out well against the tarmac creating contrast against the environment they are in. Using vibrant colours within the branding could work well perhaps replacing the yellow with green to signify green space.
