OUGD505 - Studio Brief 2 - City Patch Project - Images of Green Space for Reference

Contextual Images

Images were taken of different areas around the city as references for the branding as a way of reflecting the shapes and forms within the city and exploring the relationship, contrast and separation between urban and green space within the city. Photographs were taken of different areas and it was considered how these ideas could be represented in a small area as a way of reflecting a patch. Close ups allowed the forms of the different areas to be more heavily emphasised.

A patch it was considered is often square so it was considered that a flag stone was a similar shape. Looking at cracked paving stones as a reference it was thought that one section could be replaced by greenery to create a sense of contrast between the urban and natural environment within a small space. The cracks in the pavement are quite angular and geometric and this could be emphasised more within a design through the use of lines. Reducing the amount of cracks to create fewer sections would make the space for the green area larger creating a sense of nature springing up in the urban environment.

Photographing the edge of a green area against the concrete shows the seperation between urban and green space and how they coexist in the same space but are separate. Contrast is created by the two environments however balance is created through showing half and half of each.
