OUGD505 - Studio Brief 2 - City Patch Project - Developing Branding Ideas

Developing Branding Ideas

From the initial ideas created these were then refined to designs that had the strongest concepts and were the most visually refined. These logos also best represented the idea of green space within the urban environment, reflected the contrast between these two environments as well as suggesting the idea that space should be set aside for green areas and that they should be protected through the reference to designated space.

These designs were further refined through experimentation with colour combinations and line weights.

Increasing the line width throughout the design creates less contrast between elements within the logo. Using thinner lines for the bricks allows more of them to be used and better reflects the spaces between the bricks more. Having the green diagonal lines over a lighter patch of green aimed to create a better sense of an area however the green diagonal lines on their own against a white background creates more contrast and a brighter and fresher design. Having a thicker line for the square outline frames the design better. The thinner line width for the diagonal lines contrasts better against the other elements within the design making it stand out.

Using the dark grey outline defines the logo better than the lighter grey would. Increasing the line thickness around the green area makes it look more solid and substantial rather than temporary. Using the dark grey as a block colour around the green space makes the design look too dark and makes the green area not stand out as much. The use of light grey for the background and dark grey as an outline creates contrast whilst complementing each other. Placing a framed outline around the green patch in the centre aims to reflect the lines used in car parks to represent a car parking space, however this perhaps over complicates the design unnecessarily. Having a light background with no border around the design perhaps wouldn't stand out enough
