Initial ideas
Based on previous experimentation four concepts and formats
have been chosen:
-
Using my animation frames, flip books could be
created showing time in different formats. The series would use only the
circular designs to create a cohesive set of books. Currently the designs vary
in subject however for the series they would be either focused on expressing
only the elemental time keeping devices or representing clock movements in
abstract ways.
-
Posters will be created for an imagined
exhibition at the British Museum based on Egyptian timekeeping. These would be
based around the drawings of the obelisk and water clock created in Word and
further images. The Egyptians invented many of the early timekeeping devices.
To make a cohesive set of posters a gold colour scheme would be used in
reference to the sandy coloured stone used in Egypt and hieroglyphs could be
used to represent the different elements.
-
Creating packaging for a Dandelion paper weight
sold at Kew Gardens. During research, it was found that the seed head of a
dandelion was called a dandelion clock. This referred to the child’s game of
blowing the seeds to reveal the time. The paperweights cast the whole seed head
in resin. The current packaging is standard Kew Garden packaging which does not
reflect the product. The item is quite a luxury product because of its price so
this needs to be reflected in the packaging.
- Create a book that focuses on the macro
intricacies of clocks. This would use the macro images from my previous
experimentation. The book would also pick out elements from the pictures such
as symbols and text and show these as drawings. Images that have a white
background would be recreated as line drawings showing the detail of the clock
parts. The photographs would only be full frame images to create consistency
across the pictures. This would take influence from both the Pentagram papers
and the Sheffield newspaper.
