Studio Brief 1 - Wayfinding - Quotes

Quotes

AM Cassandre quote

'A poster is to be viewed on the street. It should integrate architectural groups and enrich the spreading facades. It should enliven not the individual advertisement board or building, but rather the huge blocks of stone and the vast area as a whole'

This suggests that design should become part of the architectural surroundings and enhance the area . It should draw attention to the place, not only to itself.

Jan Tschichold quote

'Perfect typography is certainly the most ellusive of all arts. Sculpture in stone alone comes near it in obstinancy'

Tschichold compares typography with sculptural stone work and suggest that both are just as hard to work with.

Aspects of the quotes that could be applied to the wayfinding system:

- Could the system become part of the buildings? Can they be subtly placed so that they less noticed reflecting the owls hidden and overlooked nature.

- Could the design be made from stone or engraved into the buildings themselves, so it becomes part of the architecture?
