Studio Brief 1 - Wayfinding - Interim Crit

Interim Crit Feedback

It was suggested that my ‘Coat of Arms’ designs should not be in a shield shape because this is too obvious. It was also said that the designs were becoming interesting, however they could be further simplified and more abstract. As a directional symbol the ‘owl with binocular vision’ it was said worked well as an arrow. The group suggested that I could place my coats of arms inside the circular section of the arrow. By layering arrows over one another I would be able to use one as a stopping point which would point to the location you were at and the next arrow would point in the direction of the next location. The symbol within the next arrow would represent the next place. The group said that I could use red to signify the stopping point arrow and green to suggest going to the next location. With this idea it would work best on the ground perhaps using spray paints. I said that the system would be primarily for tourists and family’s as this is who the trail is primarily used by.  A suggestion was to create stickers that could be collected by children at each of the locations to make it more interactive and engaging for them. This would make it fun and encourage them to look for the owls. If I was to do this idea I would have to create a basic map or collection card for the stickers to be placed on when found.
