Creating three final mock ups
To explore the design further, mock ups of multiple versions
were used to see which would be the most effective as the final design. The
typography used for the packaging was a sans serif typeface which reflected the
simplicity of lines and forms in the actual design. These were angled in
different ways to mimic the positions of the lines across the rest of the box.
This works well in creating a floating and light feeling to the typography
rather than being horizontal and stationary. This use of typography was also
explored within the box for the information about the product. By putting
information within the box this did not interrupt with the outside design
allowing it to retain its minimal appearance. Within the box the text reads ‘a
complete seed head captured in perfect symmetry’ and ‘seeds blow away to reveal
the time’. These sentences capture the sense of the product as well as alluding
to where the name dandelion clock comes from. The combination of the wording
and angled positioning of the text creates quite a poetic feeling. As an
experiment for the final outcome the design was printed in different ways and
slightly adapted to best suit the method. The green design was printed block
colour, whereas the other background colours were created through the use of
coloured papers. The colour schemes for each of these designs were adjusted so
that all the elements were visible on the different backgrounds e.g. white on a
green background but green on a white paper. The internal dandelion was
coloured so that the different elements were the same colour as the outside
shapes to keep a cohesive narrative across the design.
