Names for the Notebook and Typography for the Cover
To reflect the idea of the notebook being made from scrap and offcut papers different words associated with this idea were listed:
- saved
- book
- save
- notes
- reclaim
- repurpose
- old
- used
- papers
- reprocess
- recover
- found
- notebook
- reuse- salvaged
- new
- old
These words were then combined in different ways to create a name that reflected the idea of the book :
- used papers
- repaper
- saved papers
- rewritten
- rewrite
- saved notes
- rewritten
- rebook
- found notes
- found paper
- refound
- notefound
- found note
- scrap paper
- scrap papers
- scrap notes
- old notes
- scrap notebook
- reused
- found papers
Saved pages was chosen as this created a sense of preservation and the idea of them being important, which could also be interpreted as the notes within the notebook being important also.
For the typography for the cover various styles of typefaces were considered. It was thought perhaps and handwritten typeface could be used to reflect the purpose of the notebook however a calligraphic sense could be created through the use of italic or serif typefaces. Using thin typefaces it was considered could reflect the lines within the book. Some typefaces were considered for their playful and odd forms as this could reflect the varied nature of the pages within. It was considered that perhaps some of these typefaces were a little too quirky and instead the use of Serenity Medium reflected the scrap / offcut aesthetic of the papers within the notebook, through the use of angular descenders, ascenders and finials.
