Soil Tests
Originally it was considered that the flowers could be growing out of a patch of soil however it was found that this wasn't going to support the flowers. This may also mean the design would best be a poster rather than an object because of the instability of the design. Instead it was thought that the flowers could be stuck into foam which would provide more of a solid base for the flowers and would make it easier for it to be an object for the exhibition. This could also be modeled to look like a patch of soil.Cutting into the foam was quite easy with a knife and allowed an organic looking shape to be cut from a larger block. The rough edges and texture created while cutting the foam down to size gave the material more of an organic feel which suited that of soil. The foam was painted brown to make the soil patch look more of an earthy colour.
Tests were carried out where little stones were added to the surface of the foam and painted which added to the visual of the foam being soil.
