OUGD603 - Brief 7 - Build a home for Wildlife - Development - Sketches - Idea 2 - Bird Box - Nest Bird Boxes

Nest Bird Boxes

It was considered that the designs could use only natural materials to allow the bird box to fit with the natural context it would be seen in
- It was considered that bird boxes could be designed to combine elements that reflect a birds nest. The main body of the design would be made out of wood to match its surroundings, whilst holes would be drilled into the birdbox so that willow could be weaved between the holes to create refined patterns within the design.
- By using the willow it was considered this could reflect how birds naturally use twigs and sticks to create their nests , whilst the use of this material would help the design blend into the garden surrounding
- By drilling the holes in a structured pattern this would create a refined finish to something that naturally is more loosely formed
- The main body of the design could be made from wood turned wood which would create a contrast of materials and textures between this and the willow which could be interesting.
- The whole of the main body of the bird box could be wood turned with the willow pattern at the top of the design to create contrast or alternatively all over the box
- It was also considered that potentially only the top or bottom of the bird box could be made from wood with the remaining section made from a willow weaved bowl shape which would join to the wooden section.
