OUGD603 - Brief 2 - Competition Brief - Starpack Awards (Street Art Planning Kit) - Production

Production

The brief asks for a model of the final design of the Street Art Planning Tin. If made in real life the whole tin would be brushed silver, this is represented in the mock up through the use of grey vinyl. The net of the box was lasercut so that the windows in the lid were all precisely and cleanly cut. The vinyl was applied to the outside of the lid panel and the front and back of the box panel. To create the impression of debossed compartments within the tin other bits of vinyl covered card were stuck to the inside of the box lid with bits of foamboard attached around the edges to elevate them off the lid panel. The depth created in the lid with this technique mimicked how metal can be stretched to create indented areas. The cut out sections within the box act as windows for the different products to be arranged and stood up in. A clear vinyl sticker was attached to the box to create the impression of the branding being printed directly onto the box. This was kept quite small to make the tin more of an object rather than packaging. The details of the contents of the box were printed onto a wrap around, which would also keep the tin together, as well as keep the box free of unnecessary information, making the tin more likely to be reused.

The metal of the spray paint can would be left exposed, with the branding applied to this. Clear vinyl stickers with a printed colour design on them were applied to small spray paint cans and a mock up of a small paint can. This technique created the impression of the designs being directly printed onto the tin, however the designs would be much brighter if manufactured.
