Feedback from Tutor
After describing that the book was supposed to be elegant, high class and modern in design to reflect Dubai, whilst having large images and minimal text to appeal to families it was said that as a concept it was effective. The use of the personal text that act as musings from the author and the content which is things that families would want to do together make the content appropriate to the target audience. It was also said that the fact that Dubai was an opulent destination meant that there was a considered reason for creating a modern refined outcome.
The line drawings were said to have a minimal elegance which worked well. It was suggested that perhaps drawing the lines while holding a pen at a distance would create some interesting results.
It was suggested that experimenting with cropped images and more white space would create more of an approachable human aspect to the design, which could also be considered within the typesetting.
It was said that staying true to the map rather than trying to modify it too much could be effective. If the line breaks the layout it was said that perhaps this did not matter.
Using the gold sandy colour for the beach line reflected the concept it was said.
The Arabic forms that had been looked at were also considered interesting, with the sharp edges being included into the design as well as maybe considering the spacing that is used between the forms.
As reference for layouts it was suggested that I look at travel / destination guides and perhaps Cereal magazine.
