Stock Considerations
Within the stock choices the idea is to reflect the contrasting landscape within Dubai. Dubai as a city is extremely modern, however sits within a desert creating a sense of urban vs nature.
To reflect this concept it was considered that stock textures could be used to represent urban and natural landscapes within Dubai. Using a more textured paper would reflect the rough and sandy desert, where as a more glossy smooth stock would reflect the texture of the modern buildings within the city. It would have to be tested to see how this would affect the quality of the images, as some will go over double page spreads and possibly over the two textures which would alter the quality of the image.
Having a combination of straight cut pages and torn pages would also reflect the two different landscapes, with one being precise and clean whilst the other being more organic and rustic in nature.

It was also considered that the colours of the stocks could represent different aspects of Dubai. To reflect the modern and wealthy aspects of Dubai, Gold was definitely the first thing that came to mind. Pearl diving was also at one point a main source of income for Dubai, so perhaps using a pearl white paper would suggest the heritage of the country as well as reflecting a luxury paper.
Another thought was to continue the theme of Arabic writing within the stock choices for the book. Much of the scripture was written on off white / muddy cream paper. By using this within the book this would create the impression that the lines within the book were drawn on traditional scripture paper. This would mean that both the paper, line drawings and backwards format of the book would take influence from Arabic scripture.
In terms of colours for the cover of the book it was considered that to reflect the road line, black could be used to suggest the tarmac on the road, whilst yellow or gold could be used to suggest the sandy beaches.
