OUGD504 - Further Concept Considerations and Adjustments

Considerations and Adjustments

When working out the positioning for the content within the book it was found to be particularly difficult in areas where there were multiple activities / places. To combat this the content for each location was looked at to see whether any activities could be taken out to make room for other content. It was found that some of the activities were less appropriate for families with children so these were removed e.g the Opera House. Also imagery from both the Opera House and Dubai's International Financial Centre although compositionally fine, were not appealing enough for both children and adults. The imagery for these were not as vibrant or desirable as the rest of the content because they were night time shots which didn't show off the location as well as it could. Taking out these locations reduced the amount of content that had to fit into these areas.

It was also found that the direction of the 'journey' along the line would need to be considered as this could influence how much space was available for content between locations.  The beach line which will wrap from the front of the book to the middle will follow the beach geographically from left to right. The road line which will wrap from the back to the middle of the book (the book will be flipped over so the line is at the top) will follow the road from right to left geographically on the map. The spread of locations on the road when following the journey this way means that the places with more activities make use of the gaps in content better than if done from left to right, in which there would be less spare pages after the location.

The road line has been further simplified by following the outline lines of the road. These have been redrawn with a highlighter which has tried to bring more sharp edges and smooth curves into the formations of the junctions. The roads going off the junctions were also blended to create singular lines making them less bulky. It was considered that the junctions in the road line, although simplified, could be refined further to diamond shapes and the extended roads should be removed to allow more space for content and to make it simpler and more cohesive with the beach line.
