OUGD504 - Rethink on Lines

Rethink on Overall Flow of the Book

Overall there are still lots of problems with the layout of the lines throughout the book. Scaling up the lines across multiple pages is creating too much empty space between locations as they are spread out when enlarged further. Also when there are multiple activities in one location this means not all of the imagery and content for the different activities can be fit on the same page and instead has to flow onto the next pages. This means that a lot of the content does not correspond with the actual location of the activity which is not what was intended.  The road line is also problematic because of its curvature and when enlarged flows over too much of the page. When compared with the beach line which runs fairly straightly the road line looks too organic in comparison, which is emphasised more when scaled up.The shape of the line and the space that it takes up means that it is very hard to place content around it in a consistent format like with the beach line.

With all this in mind it has been decided to change the layout so that both the whole beach and road lines are on each page. The two lines will run parallel to one another with the beach at the top and the road at the bottom. The lines will be repeated on each page and the different locations will be plotted to correspond with the content. The activities will be ordered in terms of there order on both the beach and road lines. So the first point will be the first point on either of the lines, the second will be the next point that appears next on either of the lines and so on. The book will still be read back to front to keep that connection with the Arabic books and the Arabic scripture influence in the lines.
