OUGD504 - Rubbings

Collecting Rubbings

To reflect the two different areas that the lines represent, the beach and road in Dubai, it was considered that texture could be added to the forms of the lines.

To reflect the texture of the road, rubbings were taken of tarmac on a street. This led to varied results as different parts of the road had different qualities of tarmac leading to different grain patterns.

Creating rubbings of the yellow lines on a road could also be used to reflect the Dubai Road through textures from a physical road line. Capturing the road lines was more effective if they were more pronounced.

To reflect sand some rubbings of sand paper were created, however it was found that these actually looked a lot like some of the road rubbings however on a smaller scale.

The textures created could be added to the lines or could be used as backgrounds for pages within the publication to reflect a more physical nature to the two lines. However this would depend on the scale of the final line as a texture would not really work on a very small line, however if scaled up it would be more visible.
