OUGD504 - Title Design

Experiments for Title Design

- The hierarchy within the title means that Dubai is the most important aspect of the name so has been made larger, is set in bold and is always in capital letters.
- The 'Two Journeys' part of the name makes reference to the beach and road lines and the narrative that is created within the book for the reader to follow.
- The title is split into two lines of text to reflect the parallel nature of the two lines within the book.
- Having larger leading between the lines of text reflects the spacing between the two lines in the book, however closer leading imitates two lanes in a road.
- Combining both Dubai Font and Dualis Lite reflects a mix between old and new Dubai
- Using all capitals throughout both lines of text creates more impact and makes the lines of text squarer better reflecting the concept of parallel lines.
- Having a contrast between the bold 'Dubai' and lighter 'two journeys' creates contrast and emphasises Dubai more.

Final design

Within the final design Dubai is set in a larger point size to reflect the hierarchy within the design of Dubai being the most important part within the title. The name is split into two lines of text to reflect the parallel beach and road lines within the book. The two lines of text occupy the same amount of space to reflect the equal scale of both of the lines within the book. To achieve this justified text was used and increased leading allowed the bottom line to be spread out equally to mimic the top line. The colon within the title was made red to make reference to the red dots used within Arabic writing, which are used to signify short vowels in scripture. The colour of the colon also links with the dots within the book which act as a way of plotting the locations of the places.
