Colour Scheme and Textures
Colour Scheme
It was considered for the colour scheme that swatches from some of the different materials that would be sold on the shop could be used. The colour scheme could grow and change depending on the materials that are on offer at Offcut. Materials such as foam board, grey board, plywood and mdf were swatched to create a muted but industrial looking colour pallette. The use of black and white alongside both of these colour palettes wold allow contrast to be created within the design.
Alternatively it was considered that a series of bright colours could be used to create a playful and vibrant identity in which the colour scheme would contrast strongly against the materials on offer at Offcut.
The names of the different materials could be layered over the product photography to clearly and simply identify materials on the website.
Both colour schemes effectively stand out on the material photography, however perhaps the brightly coloured colour scheme takes over the imagery and takes the work away from the product itself, whilst the more industrial colour scheme contrasts against the materials whilst being more subtle.

At the centre of Offcut as a brand is the different materials on offer on the site. It was considered that the textures of these materials could act as an alternative 'colour scheme' within designs and allow the focus of the design to be on the materiality / qualities of the products on offer. These again could change over time depending on the materials on offer at Offcut, creating a flexible identity that would constantly have a refresh.

Using a macro lens allowed close up images of different materials that would be sold to be captured. The use of the macro lens allowed the details within the materials to be seen creating varied textural images that contrast against one another and reflect each of the materials in an abstract but focussed way.
