Focus on enabling the sourcing of reclaimed materials
Community project
Creating a community project that allows people locally to source, swap, trade and share materials would be useful to a large amount of people in a small area.
One company that distributes reclaimed materials
Creating a company that buys reclaimed materials from businesses and the public to the sell on through a warehouse and online could be another idea. The business would exist both physically and have an online presence. The warehouse would allow the public to access materials whilst the website would allow a wider range of people to buy products from them. It was considered that perhaps people could bring in or send in materials (similar to Music Magpie) that they had which they would either receive points or money to spend instore. It was thought that the user would get more points for there items than money as this would encourage people to buy more within the store.
Platform for people to buy and sell reclaimed materials
Creating a platform for multiple sellers to list and buy reclaimed materials in a similar format to Ebay or Etsy could be another idea. As well as buying and selling there could be the option to sell things for free and allow items to both be posted or collected allowing for both national and local exchange of goods. Having a rating system would help people to know whether the seller is any good. As well as individuals selling and buying things, businesses or institutions that have a lot of scrap materials could join the site as a way of making money from their leftover good quality materials.
Audience considerations
It has been considered that this type of site / theme is well suited to those that are environmentally conscious, want to save money and who are creative / crafty. This type of site would appeal to young people / students who like to express their individuality through creativity and also this type of repurposing is trendy at the moment. Creatives and designers are always looking for sources of new materials to create interesting things with and within creative disciplines there is a big focus on sustainability.
