Role of the Designer
Interactive projects are very complex and often need different creatives to do different aspects of the work so involve collaboration between disciplines. By having a variety of members on the team this allows for different perspectives and expertise allowing for a variety of input into ways of creating the most effective interface for the client and user.
There are six main areas in developing an interface, which include:
- Project management and Client services, which keep the product on track
- Content, which means editing and producing content
- User Experience, which makes the product enjoyable and functional
- Branding and Design, which makes the product appealing to the user
- Technology and Development, which makes the design responsive and fully functioning
- Marketing, which gets the product out there
Roles of different people within the team
Art director
An art director sets the concept for the design making sure that whatever is created by the designers is cohesive with what the other team members e.g photographers, developers etc are also creating.
Designer
The designer creates the visual design using elements such as branding and content etc.
Senior Designer
A senior designer is responsible for managing the concept and design of elements and oversees the work of junior designers.
Web Designer
Creates the look and feel of the site and is concerned with site navigation, design and visuals
Content Strategist
Is in charge of the content that is used within the design and is concerned with tone of voice and how the design is portrayed to the user
Copywriter
A copywriter edits and writes online content.
Content Developer
A content developer works with the text, graphics and other content that is given to them to then put into the site. Written material is edited to fit within specific spaces.
Project Manager
The project manager makes sure the whole project is running to schedule and manages the process of the site production.
Marketing Manger
Their job is to seek out business opportunities to make the interface successful when created.
Web Developers and Programmers
They use HTML and other coding tools to create the interactive elements and build the site so that it is fully functioning.
