OUGD504 - Studio Brief 2 - Feedback

Group Feedback

It was suggested that the design looks easy to navigate considering all the different elements that are needed for the site. It was said that a recently viewed section could be introduced and to look at Amazon as a reference. A similar idea of having similar products on a listing has been explored so potentially this would not be needed.

The use of circular imagery it was said makes the design look different from other websites and makes it stand out in comparison. However if the frames are made circular this would crop the images quite a lot so this would have to be considered when positioning the images.

It was said that perhaps if the circular format was a problem then the corners could be rounded to make the images look more organic whilst allowing the pictures to be clear.

During the crit it was said how I wanted to create a positive and encouraging tone of voice for the website to make people more likely to use it however I was uncertain how this could be done. It was said that perhaps a character could be created to say things however this could be too childish for something aimed at creatives.

Tutor Feedback

It was suggested that maybe there should be requirements for the materials that are put on the site to help

It was discussed how the site is just focusing on the raw materials and that the items would be scrap or off cuts from a persons project. It was suggested that maybe there shouldn't be a drop down for the category because maybe this categories them too much and that the aim is to be creative with the materials.

It was said that potentially coming to some sort of a compromise about which goals of the website are the most important could help the site and create less contradiction rather than trying to get the user to do to much.

At the moment there is a search bar for finding specific items allowing for the viewer to buy only what they need therefore reducing waste.

There is also a category bar and reccomended items from each category which allows for browsing and the discovery of items the user may not have seen before encouraging creativity with materials.

The categories are named after the types of materials as the aim of the site is to not influence the creativity of the buyer allowing them to be innovative with the products.

It was suggested that perhaps the focus could be on what you can make with some of the materials. The first screen could ask them what they want to make perhaps selecting materials they have and the size and quantity that they need (this would have to be entered when a person makes a listing, which could be difficult because of the uniqueness of scrap material) and then the system would show them possible things they could use to create that object.  I questioned whether this would be influencing the creative process however it was discussed how they would have the choice over the wide range of possible listings and materials that would come up. This could potentially help people get a sense of what they could do with the materials and make the site clearer as to its aim. This format could possibly define to the audience the function of the website better.
