Variations of Logo / Refinement
In response to tutor feedback variations of the original logo were created which explored the use of rounded corners, different shadow forms and positioning of the tip of the speech bubble.
The designs were neatened up so that elements such as the stroke width around the box was all the same and the spacing around the logotype was the same within the bubble.
Original Logo
It was suggested in feedback that potentially the logo could be adapted to have rounded corners and that perhaps multiple bubbles could be used within elements of the branding to further emphasise the idea of people speaking in particular the idea of two people having a conversation with one another.
I neatened up the logo and adapted its arrangement in different ways so that it would be functional in different positions within a design and the shadows were experimented with to improve the perspective within them.
- It was considered that if two bubbles were to be used within a design the shadow would not come from the same side of the page / corner each time as this would crowd the design. Instead it was thought that a bubble could come from the top right hand corner, whilst the other bubble could come from the left hand side either with the shadow from above or below it.
- Aligning the tip of the speech bubble to whichever side the bubble comes from would create the impression that the 'speech' is coming from the same side as the shadow, creating consistency within the design.
- Enlarging the width of the shadow is more representative of the shape of the bubble however perhaps this has become too blocky.
- The rounded corners of the bubble make the design look more like a classic speech bubble however perhaps this contrasts too much against the squareness of the shadow and the frame it will sit in within the posters.
- These designs used the original logo however the bubble tip has been rotated to different positions within the design.
- Having the tip extend to the right hand side of the bubble on the designs with the shadow from the left hand side perhaps looks a little unnatural. This perhaps could be said for all of the bubbles where the tip extends out of the top of the design.
- Rounded corners on the bubble perhaps make it look more like a conventional speech bubble however perhaps this doesn't fit as well with the square shadow as they contrast slightly.
- Changing the shadow so that it extends from a point looks like more of a natural perspective for the bubble to be extending out from.
- It was considered that perhaps the tip of the bubble could have a bit of the shadow linked to it so that it doesn't look like it is floating within the design.
Feedback:
- It was suggested that perhaps the designs with the rounded corners contrasted too much with the squareness within the rest of the design / posters.
- The modified shadow was also considered less effective than the original one.
- Overall it was decided that we would stay with the original logo within the designs.
