Souvenir Penny Design Brief Analysis
Brief
The brief is to create a series of four souvenir pressed penny designs for Leeds Art Gallery to celebrate 130 years since its opening. The designs must be appropriate for a tourist market and suitable for all ages. Inspiration should be taken from the variety of work on display within the permanent collection at the Gallery and / or the building itself. The designs should be recognisable, bold and clear allowing them to be representative of a visitor’s experience to the gallery. Background / Considerations
- Consider the size and scale of a pressed penny and how this will affect the impact of the design and any text that may be included.- Consider the production methods of creating the final pennies and ways in which this can be recreated.
- Consider how the design will emboss onto the penny, whether it will be a line drawing and / or have raised areas and how these can be used to best effect.
- Will text be used within the design?
Mandatory Requirements
- Must have the name of the gallery written on each of the penny designs.- At least one of the designs should make reference to and celebrate the 130th Anniversary of the opening of Leeds Art Gallery
- There must be room around each of the designs to allow for error in ‘pressing’ the design
- All four designs should have an element of consistency across the set
- They should be reflective of different aspects of the collection and or building
