OUGD503 - Studio Brief 1 - Noughts and Crosses (4 days) - Final Feedback

Final Crit Feedback

Overall it was said that the design using the oil and water was the strongest out of the three concepts. It was said that this design was most suited to the audience and would stand out amongst other black and white entries.  It was also suggested that this concept would tie most effectively with the storyline. The oil and water design was said to have created some really strong images which work well with the book. The concept, it was suggested had strong connections to the research which gives the book a new look / style. The subtle black and white elements it was felt, worked well. It was suggested that perhaps the title / text within the design possibly doesn't have to be different weights because contrast is already explored within the imagery. It was asked whether there was a way of making the design more apparent so that it was clearer that the image was of oil in water, because the design linked well to the book. When developing the images it was considered that the use of more droplets, however made it more obvious that the design was created by mixing oil and water. This it was considered would best reflect the quote.

It was suggested that for the bubble design, perhaps adding a popped bubble amongst the others would further reflect the quote and suggest bubbles can't last forever. However it was also said that the cloud and bubble idea could perhaps be misinterpreted

The coin concept was also said to work well in conveying the themes within the book. It was suggested that perhaps the side of the coin could be used on the spine to create a playful design that shows all elements / sides of the coin. This was however explored within the development of the image, however it made it difficult to place the text on the spine.
